Some more in progress shots for the Shrapnel cover (see first post
here for more details.)
Above, I was practising possible poses. Looking back this step was kind of fruitless as I did not draw them interacting together or in the perspective I wanted, which would have saved time and frustration. But this did give me a little more experience drawing them and allowed me to pin down their personalities a bit better before I went on.

I am still learning when it comes to perspective so this is quite a challenge for me and probably has a lot of inaccuracies, but I am happy with where it is going. My primary problems are the framing of the characters and the size ratio between the two; although Arkwright (right) is taller than Shrapnel (left), being the main character, I wanted Shrapnel to appear taller. So I am trying to work with perspective along with Arkwright's crouched pose to suggest Shrapnel's dominance in the image. |
I also can't help but feel I may be breaking some sort of graphical code or rule whenever I create illustrations. I really need to research design fundamentals. That's something to put on the reading list!
More to come soon.
